In the Rock'n'Roll Hall Of Fame, Patti Smith proudly joins Keith Richards and Bruce Springsteen, with whom she wrote her most famous song: Because the Night. For decades, the godmother of punk has performed with disarming sincerity and simplicity. Poetic realism could hardly wish for a better ambassador. Next year she returns to Zurich. Here she will perform with an extraordinary quartet, surrounded by her son and guitarist Jackson Smith, the drummer and founder of the British band Polar Bear Seb Rochford and Tony Shanahan, her loyal bassist and keyboardist since 1996. Patti Smith was the pioneer of punk rock in New York, London, Los Angeles and beyond. A pioneer in the fusion of bohemian and rock, she was able to bring the evocative power of beat writers like Allen Ginsberg and William S. Burroughs to the rock mainstream.
Born in Chicago and raised in New Jersey, Patti Smith has lived in New York since 1967. She released her first album Horses in 1975 and has been nominated for four Grammy Awards, most recently in 2017 for the spoken word recording of her book “M Train”. She received a Golden Globe nomination for the song Mercy Is from the movie Noah. Her highly acclaimed memoir Just Kids, which describes her friendship and journey in art with photographer Robert Mapplethorpe, won the National Book Award in 2010.
