Of Monsters and Men return today with a double release: “Dream Team” and “The Towering Skyscraper at the End of the Road” — taken from All Is Love and Pain in the Mouse Parade, their first full-length album in six years, which will be released on October 17. On March 5, Of Monsters And Men will perform at Zurich’s X-TRA.
“Dream Team” picks up where the debut single “Television Love” left off, exploring the tension between vulnerability and self-preservation, while combining raw lyrics with carefree energy in their signature mix of atmosphere and nostalgia. In addition to its resonance, “Dream Team” will also be shown on the big screen in the upcoming film A Big Bold Beautiful Journey with Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell, which hits cinemas on September 19. And Of Monsters And Men won’t only be heard in cinema — on March 5 the band will play the X-TRA in Zurich.
The simultaneously released song “The Towering Skyscraper at the End of the Road” is more introspective and offers a delicate reflection on the past — moments, people and places that linger like a distant skyscraper and quietly shape who you have become. By releasing both tracks on the same day, the band emphasizes the central narrative of the album about love and pain: “Dream Team” captures the excitement of love, while “The Towering Skyscraper at the End of the Road” grapples with the ongoing pain of memory and reveals how inseparable joy and heartbreak are.
About the release, the band says: “Dream Team” is based on a piano part played for us by our drummer Arnar. He immediately gave us this carefree, nostalgic feeling. It feels like carefree hopping through the city. The lyrics paint another picture: it’s an inner dialogue of someone experiencing a whole range of emotions. They jump from one feeling to the next. They feel incredibly happy and confident, but at the same time overwhelmed by immense sadness and fear. “The Towering Skyscraper at the End of the Road” is about growing up and drifting apart; it’s a song that looks back at the past with kind eyes.
