For the Love of Music: The legendary band Fat Freddy’s Drop will return to the stage in 2026 to perform their groundbreaking debut album "Based On A True Story" live. The 51 shows across Australia, Aotearoa, Europe, and the United Kingdom will mark Freddy’s first performances since the sudden passing of founding member Chris “MU” Faiumu. The band is united in their decision to continue with the long-planned tour. Lead singer Dallas Tamaira says:

“It’s important to us to honour the intentions we had together with MU – and performing this album live is part of that.”

"Based On A True Story" was independently released in 2005 – an album of ten fresh tracks of futuristic funk, full of surprises, deceptions, and playful detours. In a historic success story, the album became Aotearoa’s longest-charting album, spending 111 weeks in the Top 40, winning eight New Zealand Music Awards, and receiving recognition at the Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide Music Awards in the UK. Saxophonist Scott Towers explains:

“This was the band’s first studio album, and its success was the launchpad for an incredible journey we’ve shared. We want to pay tribute to the music, to MU, and to the band he co-founded – and of course to our fans around the world who have supported us through everything.”
